EAT MY SHORTS: Ella & Kim Sing & Swing

The wonderful sounds of Ella Fitzgerald and Kim Nalley are even more fun if you can watch them perform.

There is no way we can include all the great material one can find on the Internet. We  offer a sampling that will keep you happy for hours featuring both Ella and Kim.

We can’t find footage of Ella and Louis together so we provide one of their albums to listen to and enjoy.

Ella Fitzgerald: Just One Of Those Things plays in Virtual Cinemas from Friday, June 26 through Friday, July 10. Buy a “virtual ticket” and support your favorite independent theater.

Read Kim Nalley’s review.

On Sunday, June 28 author & music critic Will Friedwald, “Just One Of Those Things” producer Reggie Nadelson, Pulitzer Prize-winning author/journalist Margo Jefferson and composer, multi-instrumentalist & vocalist Camille Thurman had a conversation about Ella and the movie. You can watch it here.

And now, on with the show.

We have not found actual film of Ella with Chick Webb Orchestra but these songs have a terrific selection of stills.

Ride ‘Em Cowboy is a 1942 Universal Pictures movie starring Abbott and Costello, and featuring a very young Ella who played “Ruby,” a maid. She sang her big hit “A-Tisket, A-Tasket” on board a bus, and then she took her seat…..all the way in the very back of the bus.
