Niles then and now. Find out more about the making of Chaplin’s THE CHAMPION at Silent Locations.

As is often the case, film lovers in the San Francisco area have tough choices to make the weekend of July 20-22, 2018 as Charlie Chaplin Days celebrate its second weekend in Niles, California.

The fun starts Friday evening with Dan Kamin’s guided tour into Chaplin’s enchanted world and continues on Saturday with David Newell (Mr. McFeely of MISTER ROGERS’ NEIGHBORHOOD) in conversation with Kamin and presenting favorite comedies. The schedule is relaxed, giving you plenty of time to visit the Museum and the best movie gift and book shop I’ve seen. Plus wander the town of Niles for antique stores, restaurants, a working vintage railroad and a huge ice cream sundae.

Luckily for silent film fans the annual San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (written about in a separate article)  is presenting the International Premiere of THE CITY WITHOUT JEWS (1924) at 7:00pm on Sunday, July 22 so fans enjoying the fun in Niles should be able to get to the Castro in San Francisco (by car or BART/Muni) after the “Laurel & Hardy Silent Matinee Laugh Challenge” at 4pm.

We are going to let the Niles Silent Movie Museum website speak for itself. And note the upcoming 21st Broncho Billy Silent Film Festival August 10-12.
