When the Breen Office cautioned the studio over this scene in which Drake (Ronald Reagan) discovers his legs have been amputated, Menzies threw the visual emphasis to Randy (Ann Sheridan) by reflecting in her anguished reaction shots the depth of Drake’s horror.
